Select the virtual machine and select VM > Settings. On the Hardware tab, click Add. In the Add Hardware wizard, select Serial Port. Click Finish to add the virtual serial port to the virtual machine. Select where the virtual serial port sends output. Send output to a physical serial port on the host system.

Click Virtual Machines in the VMware Host Client inventory. Right-click a virtual machine in the list and select Edit settings from the pop-up menu. On the Virtual Hardware tab, select Add other device and select Serial Port. The Serial Port appears in the hardware list.

Right-click a virtual machine in the inventory and select Edit Settings. On the Virtual Hardware tab, click the Add New Device button. Select Serial Port from the drop-down menu. The new serial port appears at the bottom of the device list. From the New Serial port drop-down menu, select a connection type.

To configure serial port settings for a selected virtual machine, select the virtual machine, select VM > Settings, click the Hardware tab, and select the serial port. Table 1.
