The story follows Light Yagami, a genius high school student who discovers a mysterious notebook: the "Death Note", which belonged to the shinigami Ryuk, and grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages.

The story is about the life journey of Yagami Light, a young man who obtains a book known as the Death Note. The book allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes in it. Light then decides to use this power to do away with evil in the world and starts a quest for justice.

Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die.
