    MR - DC is a generalization of Intra- E-UTRA Dual Connectivity. MR - DC can offer a UE more resources for higher throughput. More commonly, it helps operators improve mobility robustness and handovers in macro/micro-cell deployments. It aids in migrating their networks from 4G to 5G. Why do we need MR - DC?
    Let's take a detailed look into them. DC is a legacy term and known from LTE context. MR-DC is more of generic term, I guess, to give bit more flexibility to expand the DC to 5G. EN-DC, as I understand, architecture is based on E-UTRAN where it houses both eNB and gNB with EPC as the Core Network.
    EN- DC corresponds to Option 3, NGEN- DC to Option 4, NE - DC to Option 7, and NR - DC to Option 2. We note that EN- DC uses LTE EPC whereas other MR - DC configurations use 5G Core. MN and SN are connected via the X2 interface (in EN- DC) and Xn interface (NGEN- DC, NE - DC, NR - DC ). MN must have a connection to the CN.
    In MR - DC, a UE is connected to two nodes. One is called the Master Node (MN) and the other is called the Secondary Node (SN). MN is the node to which the UE first connects. Subsequently, using RRC signalling messages via the MN, UE connects to the SN .
    In ENDC (Eutra NR Dual Connectivity), LTE would become a MCG (Master Cell Group) and NR would become a SCG (Secondary Cell Group). MCG work as the anchor and UE performs initial registration to this anchor cell group, and this anchor cell add one or more Secondary Cells (SCG).
