This stage of the Double Diamond process is where ideas are kindled, shaped, and tested in the forge of design thinking. It’s a period of expansion following the focused convergence of the Define phase, a time when the possibilities for solving our well-defined problem seem as boundless as the night sky.
Our approach can be explained using the 'Double Diamond' approach, which lays out the phases of design. The Design Council’s Double Diamond model is a visual diagram that some poeple find useful to show the design stages. It shows the importance of taking time to understand the situation of use and any problems before designing solutions.

The frame innovation is applied to the Double Diamond framework as the first two steps (Discover and Define) present the first stage (problem space), and the third and fourth steps (Develop and Deliver) represent the second stage (solution space).
This endeavour led to the creation of both the Double Diamond and another Design Council resource called the Methods Bank. Although project teams across Design Council talked about design process, they didn’t have a standard way of presenting this process, or a consistent way of managing design projects.
The double diamond is based on the frame innovation approach coined by Kees Dorst, Professor of Design Innovation at the University of Technology. In his approach, the design process can be divided into problem space and solution space.
