A rising hard disk drive (HDD) with a rotational speed of 10000 RPM is utilized for storage servers in enterprise applications such as datacentres. Because they have lower latency while data reads, these are substantially faster than traditional hard drives such as the 5400 RPM & 7200 RPM.

The fastest hard drives currently available are 10K RPM (revolutions per minute) SAS drives. These high-performance HDDs offer incredibly fast read/write speeds due to their increased rotational speed compared with traditional 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drives.

Not only are a number of SCSI hard drives available with 10K spindle speeds, there’s also a new Serial ATA drive available that spins at 10K RPM, too. Today I’ll be looking at the performance of a threesome of 10K hard drives: Maxtor’s Atlas 10K IV and Seagate’s Cheetah 10K.6 SCSI drives, plus Western Digital’s new Raptor WD360GD Serial ATA drive.
