Akira Yamaoka was the first to deliver a total horror game experience through disturbing tunes and unearthly sounds. His later works expanded outside the gaming world, such as Japan major TV drama "The Rules of a Great Detective," Silent Hill live action film, and other various project.
Often suggestive of air raid sirens, background radiation, or the quiet hum of a dialysis machine, Yamaoka used guitar and electronics to create a sound that was alternately lush and bracing, with melancholy dreamscapes dissolving under a rain of lacerating distortion. Video game music could never sound quite the same again.
In late October and early November 2015, Yamaoka and his band performed tracks from the Silent Hill series at nine live events in cities across the United Kingdom, titled "Silent Hill Live". In July 2016, Yamaoka performed live at the BitSummit 4th indie game festival in Kyoto, Japan.
Yamaoka attended Tokyo Art College, where he studied product design and interior design. He originally planned to follow a career in design. Yamaoka joined Konami on September 21, 1993. He immediately began to work on the games Contra: Hard Corps, Sparkster, and Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2.
