      The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is the maximum amount of heat generated by a computer chip or component, such as a CPU, GPU, or system on a chip, that the cooling system in a computer is designed to dissipate under any workload.
      It's extremely rare to reach the TDP (Thermal Design Power) of a CPU or GPU unless you rely on intensive applications and processes. A higher TDP requires more cooling, be it in passive technologies, fan-based coolers, or liquid platforms. For instance, you cannot keep a 220W AMD FX-9590 cool with a laptop CPU cooler.
      A lower thermal design power generally results in lower power consumption, which contributes to greater battery life. However, TDP doesn't always accurately represent the maximum power consumption. Instead, TDP serves as a guide. Furthermore, TDP is a self-reported metric.
      cTDP ( Configurable TDP or programmable TDP or TDP power cap ) is an operating mode of later generations of Intel mobile processors (as of January 2014) and AMD processors (as of June 2012) that allows adjustments in their TDP values.
