SIEM & SOAR both aim to strengthen security monitoring, incident response & threat mitigation capabilities. However, SIEM focuses on gathering security data from multiple sources & enabling threat detection & analysis. SOAR concentrates on streamlining & automating workflows to accelerate & improve incident response.

SIEM and SOAR are two technologies that are pivotal in strengthening security operations. SIEMs provide valuable insight into cyber threats by aggregating and analyzing security data from various sources. SOARs prioritize and respond to security incidents effectively by leveraging machine learning-driven automation and orchestration capabilities.

While SOAR tools are primarily used to orchestrate and automate threat response, SIEM offers greater visibility into activity through threat detection, log management, incident analysis, and regulatory and standards compliance.

SIEM analyses and generates alerts from logs. SOAR receives all of these alerts and more, correlates them, and automatically makes the appropriate corrections. Both are critical components of an organization's incident management architecture and, interestingly, they are no longer distinct concepts. Both have converged to become a single entity.
